I'm honoured to start 2024 as a University Research Chair Dalhousie Chemistry. Thanks to @DalVPR, Dalhousie Science for this recognition & all team members + collaborators for enabling it! Through this, we have a PhD position for May/Sept 2024 start (see ⬇️ + our website). Please share!🙂

📢The IRIS conference will be in Halifax (🇨🇦), July 21-25, 2024! The org team, led by Charles Macdonald and Jason Clyburne, invites you to this premiere, long-running main group chem series. Info: iris2024.ca ACSINORDivision Inorganic Chemistry DaltonTransactions Angewandte Chemie

MOF/COF folks: check out our new work in Chemical Communications revealing PN cages as new rigid 3D connectors for crystalline/amorphous materials. Tunable, larger & P NMR active cf. bicycloalkanes. Delighted to say Saint Mary’s University now has some eclipse glasses (ISO certified) from Celestial Optical. Each of the Deans offices have 200 for distribution to students, staff and faculty. Don't mind saying they look like superhero masks! 😀Awesome design job by Danielle B.

New publication out with co-authors Robert Singer and Jason Masuda , led by the amazing Mary Stackaruk! We developed copper-based screen-printed electrodes to study thin films using EC-SERS, including NHC monolayers which form at reductive potentials! pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ac…

FREE Solar Eclipse Public Viewing Event on April 8! Drop in at the Saint Mary’s University football field! No registration is required. Solar telescopes to use, & free eclipse glasses (while supplies last). Date: April 8 @ 3:30 - 5:45 pm Details: observatory.smu.ca/eclipse-2024

Our work, which shows the first P-center that can activate the H-H bond through an oxidative addition type reaction and be used for catalytic hydrogenation—unprecedented for single main group centers—is now published in Nature Chemistry. doi.org/10.1038/s41557…

"Why are some pincer pnictogen complexes planar & others pyramidal?" Led by @THannah77, @taminazk, Dalhousie Chemistry We propose a model with 2 opposing effects to rationalize seemingly random outcomes. Written for both existing nerds & nerds-to-be (students)! …mistry-europe.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ch…

A neat demo of flame retardance + char formation with one of our halogen-free PN cage polymers (<40% C by wt). Oxidized carbon (CO, CO2) evaporates exposing fresh cotton to the flames. Oxidized inorganics don't evaporate, forming a protective oxide layer (char). Dalhousie Chemistry

PhD applications are now open IISER Pune . You are welcome to our group if you are interested in main-group chemistry research focusing on mono/bimetallic catalysis, polymers and clusters, battery materials. Please apply. National Testing Agency UGC INDIA CSIR, India HRDGCSIR

FLP chemistry cracks a long-standing challenge: the selective reduction of esters to aldehyde. Check out our latest development in J. Am. Chem. Soc.. Scalable from gram to half-ton scale, this could be a game-changer in many fields. Provivi, #Pheron, #AldexChem pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ja…
