From time to time, the anger flows, faster and faster, hotter and hotter, but most of the time, I am exhausted by my efforts to keep the lid on my anger.

Every week I learn new words… tricked, conned, deceived, groomed, assaulted, raped, but not strangled, burned, buried. So I think myself luckier than some, like Sarah.

Today every cell in my body is screaming. My limbs feel heavy, my eyes struggle to focus, my stomach is a nauseous bubble my head is like a tomb, or an unexploded bomb.

But I am alive. I was terrified, but I did not fight back. I shut down and everything seemed far away. When, 12 years later the first flashback came I was doubled over. Tears are not enough to cool the anger, though my throat is obstructed and my eyes ache to cry.

I am alive. I lived to remember, to have a life, a good life, a family: but I did not forget. Over the years I have come to be able to handle reports in the papers, scenes in TV dramas, words on my timeline.

Yesterday: I survived that too. It was like an enormous dredger, raking up every tiny bit of me and all the millions of my sisters.

Today I am once again putting myself back together. Letting the cells align, the blood flow, the feelings make their way once more to my various organs.

I let my brain cells rest in the dark in the hope that will be enough to make another start. I sing to my limbs and stomach, soothing a way to move and digest. Until tomorrow….
