On a quick read- I’m seeing the *upper estimate* of total cost reductions *in 10 years* would be ~£80-90 million- which is less than 0.05% of the NHS budget. Doesn’t include the added costs of meds, assessments and oversight. Do you still think they were trying to bury it?

An author thinks that compassion is defined by disingenuously fuelling a false belief. No shame to the doc- it’s a tough spot and we’ve all been there. The shame belongs entirely to the guy who has never done medicine but judges us all.

Returning for a short minute to say my Health Research Council team are hosting an assisted dying conference wgtn.ac.nz/assisted-dying… It's focusing on Aotearoa NZ but if your work has relevance, I encourage you to submit an abstract (I need to update the website to reflect this!)

I’m curious to see whether an army of #MAID opponents shows up at her trial to argue that it wasn’t manslaughter because she died of her underlying illness 🤨 Thaddeus Mason Pope, JD, PhD, HEC-C

And our reply. There's a *lot* of data. All of it contradicts the idea that #MAID is driven to any substantial degree by structural marginalization, poor access/quality of palliative care. Quite the opposite appears to be true. Ask yourself why. Thaddeus Mason Pope, JD, PhD, HEC-C Prof Katherine Sleeman

Fascinating presentation at EAPC VZW in Helsinki, international comparison of what “constipation” means to patients. Bottom line: when people tell you they are *not* constipated, 25% of the time they are full of crap. 🤔

Latest from Sam H Ahmedzai and me, explaining why many concerns raised about #MAID apply just as much (or more) to common palliative care practices. BMJ SPCare blogs.bmj.com/spcare/2025/05…

Pleased to share this blog from James Downar and me in BMJ Supportive and Palliative Care. We discuss and challenge some recent themes published on the subject of assisted dying. We argue that many of the ‘concerns’ apply as much to palliative care. blogs.bmj.com/spcare/2025/05…
