In Calder Bridge we had a pint in the inn where #AnneLister dozed on the sofa while waiting for a pair of horses and a side-saddle to be brought for her from the local landowner, Mr Stanley of Ponsonby Hall. Lovely picturesque old village on a river Calder (reminds of Calderdale)

We also found Mr Stanley's Ponsonby Hall, today known as Pelham house and used as government offices. The gates and the Lodge with the Stanley arms are still there at the entrance to the village, and another bigger Lodge marks the main entrance for the old Hall. Motto of Stanley

Riding to Scale Hill inn where her aunt was waiting for her, #AnneLister passed through Kirkland and Lamplugh, where Saint Michael's church and the impressive gateway at Lamplugh Hall are well worth seeing. There's a peek at Ennerdale from there too. #LakeDistrict

Both Loweswater lake and village are small and picturesque, and as #AnneLister says, the church of St Bartholomew is further away and closer to Crummock lake than Loweswater. In the nearby Kirkstile Inn, I supplied myself with local craft ale. #LakeDistrict

The moment in which #AnneLister's #LakeDistrict intertwines with #AnnWalker's #LakeDistrict is in the summer of 1832 when Anne tells Ann of how she got lost near Wastwater and begs her to think of her during her stay there. The isolation and peacefulness of the Lakes in the 1830s

In #Cockermouth we visited William and Dorothy Wordsworth's birthplace and their early childhood home. The house and the garden are today under the care of the National Trust. Earlier we have also visited Dove cottage, Allan Bank and the old Rectory in #Grasmere and Rydal Mount
