The turnout increased. It is the biggest vote ever for a President. It is the biggest margin of victory ever for a President. Don't allow them to talk down the scale of this victory for Catherine Connolly and the left. It is genuinely historic. The movement must continue.

The Palestine solidarity movement is actually a key reason she won. It has shifted opinion on western imperialism and the role of the EU and provided much of the energised base of the campaign.

Normally, I'd look at the papers, listen to the radio, or watch the telly to see the reaction to the result of an election. With this one, I don't see the point. They've made themselves completely irrelevant. They spent the last week saying that the turnout would be at a record

While the far-right has had the initiative for the past 5 years, a thing that was heartening about Catherine Connolly's victory speech was her reference to 'new people' as part of the nation. The vision that won was that more capacious vision of the nation jacobin.com/2025/10/irish-…

"Younger, working class men" So, I grew up in a council estate. This is about men like me and people I know. Politics isn't working for us, but it's not because of a lack of conservatism, it's because people in power & successive governments have shredded the social contract.

What a pathetic thing for a person with such authority to say. Any person can and should speak about anything they wish, including migration. But this particular person has created the broken system he now wishes to “discuss”- 14 years of failure, broken promises & scapegoating.

This is where "get them out" leads to - this is the ugly, violent face of the far-right and their campaign of hateful lies, disinformation and dehumanisation of asylum seekers Not an inch for them, for their rhetoric or their talking heads.
