Printed in Korea in 1377, 78 years before Gutenberg, this is the world's oldest extant book printed with movable metal type. Known by its abbreviated name of "Jikji", only a single copy of one volume of the original 2 volume edition survives, and is held today by Bibliothèque BnF in Paris.

When Johann Schultze compiled his Polabian wordlist and wrote this in the village of Süthen near Lüchow in 1725, he became the first person known to us in history to consciously record his awareness he was speaking a dying language. The last speaker of Polabian died in 1756.

Back in the 12th century, French sculptor Gislebertus carved this angel as (s)he appears to the three Magi as they dream, waking one with the delicate touch of a finger, and pointing her other forefinger toward the Bethlehem star (Cathedral of St Lazare at Autun)

This is insane. A full audio reading of the Iliad and the first 7 books of the Odyssey in meter, with poetic diacritics and a rocking drum beat. Check all the boxes at the top and then click on the 1st line. #ancientgreek hypotactic.com/my-reading-of-…

Died? DIED? Hamas kidnapped him, blew his arm off with a grenade, held him hostage for 11 months and in the last few days murdered him and five other Israeli hostages with him in cold blood. x.com/CNN/status/183…

The 4.2m tall granite menhir of La Longue Pierre in St-Pierre-Église (Manche) forms a triangle with another in that commune and one in Cosqueville. They are known as the Three Princesses and a great treasure (for their dowries?) is buried at the centre. #StandingStoneSunday.
