At the World Islands Forum, I emphasized that the IMO is the first to mandate #GHG emission cuts across an entire industry. We need a just and equitable transition for Small Island Developing States.

I met with OECD Development Secretary-General Mathias Cormann. We discussed shipbuilding, the impact of IMO rules on #GHG reduction, combating marine plastic litter and mitigating underwater noise from ships.

The impact of underwater noise on marine life is clear. I'm pleased that the Canada-Panama Coalition for a Quiet Ocean event is addressing how to reduce shipping noise and mitigate its negative effects on marine ecosystems. #UNOC #UnderWaterNoise

I met with Morocco’s Secretary of State for Maritime Fisheries, Zakia Driouich—we spoke about the Cape Town Agreement for safer fishing vessels & tackling #GHG emissions in the maritime sector. #UNOC
