Bubbles are seen within European art as memento mori and vanitas. There's a Latin phrase called: homo bulla - man is a bubble. It signifies the transience of life reflecting our pneuma, our breath 🫧 It's a Roman adage coined by Varro and Lucian and adapted by Erasmus.

The bubble was also seen beyond the West. In ancient Egypt: the Ba soul appeared after death as a weightless bubble. Within a 15th-century Japanese hanging scroll depicts Kukai's dream at the beginning of his spiritual awareness. He was the founder of the Shingon school.
