The words "erupt", "corrupt", "bankrupt", "interrupt", and "disrupt" all come from a Latin verb meaning "break" etymologynerd.com/1/post/2021/06…

The ECF framework truly is poor, a straightjacket & no more than a tick box approach that causes a lot of pointless work. I was hopeful at first but have to say ECTs have been truly let down but what is a poorly designed load of tosh.

The Ordnance Survey have just published the guidance I have developed for them 'Designing a coherent geography curriculum for 11-16 year olds - Planning for pupil progress in the use of Ordnance Survey maps' Its a free download from ordnancesurvey.co.uk/documents/reso… I hope it's useful.

THREAD: ‘Behaviour is slipping’. Everyone on SLT has heard this before. But what should we do? I’ve been lucky to work in some great schools that have improved behaviour significantly. Here’s some of the things I’ve learned about tackling behavioural drift:

Richard Tutt (@richardtutt) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This ⬇️ Critical. Head+SLT duty is to OWN behaviour and blame themselves if behaviour and culture is poor, and no one else. They should be servant leaders. Toxic if staff blamed for poor behaviour in the school. Staff accountable for consistent implementation. SLT support this.

Noise pollution is worse than you think: a 10db noise increase (from dishwasher to vacuum) drops productivity by 5%. But YOU DON’T NOTICE: noise hurts your ability to think, not your effort. You work as hard but do worse! And poorer areas have more noise. joshuatdean.com/wp-content/upl…

Hi all, We’re making changes to the On Call System from Monday. It must only be used in extreme cases. You will fill in the On Call Google Form as usual and then you’ll be put in a triage queue, where your case will be assessed by 5 members of SLT who won’t come to help. Thanks x

Retrieval practice is really important for strengthening memories. But what about the way students first *encode* new memories? 🧵

Charlotte Pottinger's Retrieval Practice at Rivers Primary Academy is pure gold- and you can see her students think so as well. Video and notes here: teachlikeachampion.org/blog/how-charl…

Is it true that some students just can’t do math? No, but you probably shouldn’t design instruction so that only a small minority of students can do it! aft.org/sites/default/…

This is clever marketing from Reform because it pulls on an instinctive sense of fairness. An easy argument back is to point out: Newcastle United - 85 goals - 7th in league Aston Villa - 76 goals - 4th in league It is fair and normal to reward wins not goals.
