Public speaking is an important skill I think students should have. It requires thinking about word choice, communicating well, and using words to convey a clear message. This provides ways to help students learn just that! 🗣️⁦ PJ Language Arts Methodology UWindsor⁩ emergingedtech.com/2021/04/5-ways…

This is a great way for students to learn SEL. New beginnings and fresh starts require a level of self regulation, striving to be better than the past, and making an effort for oneself. Literature is a great way to teach them that.📕 PJ Language Arts Methodology UWindsor

Free-writing is an excellent way to get students comfortable with writing. This could be done as bell-work in the morning. This site provides writing prompts for grades 1-6. All you need are pencils, empty notebooks and open-minds. ⁦PJ Language Arts Methodology UWindsor⁩ nightzookeeper.com/resources/grad…

I love to expand my vocabulary by learning new words. This idea would be good for upper levels like grade 6-8. With smaller grades, you could pick smaller words to learn. Each day is a new word, try to use in sentence at least once.⁦PJ Language Arts Methodology UWindsor⁩ merriam-webster.com/word-of-the-day

Book talks are great ways to have students read a book of their choice then pitch reasons to read it to their peers in a short 2-minute speech. There are endless creative possibilities for them to do this. Builds reading/oral skills.PJ Language Arts Methodology UWindsor⁩ thinkgrowgiggle.com/2021/01/simple…

Continuing with Pete the Cat; I Love my White Shoes, this follow up activity would be great for the kindergartners. They not only would be learning how to tie shoes, but also make text-to-self connections as well as develop fine motor skills for future writing. ✏️PJ Language Arts Methodology UWindsor

Continuing Pete the Cat and his white shoes, this activity gets kindergarteners to retell the story from comprehension. The activity finishes with an opinion writing piece, which is great for discovering voice and persuasive writing skills. ✏️ PJ Language Arts Methodology UWindsor

This Pete, the Cat; I Love my White Shoes activity is great for learning about colours as well as cause-and-effect. Children are reading the sentences and inferring what colour the shoes will turn based on what he stepped in. PJ Language Arts Methodology UWindsor

This is a useful resource with multiple activities that can be done with elementary students, too. Word walls are definitely a must have in my classroom as I am always down for expanding vocabulary! ⁦PJ Language Arts Methodology UWindsor⁩ readingrockets.org/content/pdfs/W…

Imagery writing may be overwhelming for some students. This anchor chart resource provides students a vision of “painting a picture” for their audience. It provides writing prompts based on the 5 senses. Additionally, I’d provide mini thesauruses to help. PJ Language Arts Methodology UWindsor

I was never given good comma advice as a young writer. I’m still trying to break bad comma habits today. This chart is so helpful for students who are learning grammar in their writing- start early!! PJ Language Arts Methodology UWindsor

Social/Emotional Learning is a huge part of my personal philosophy. My main objective as an educator is to eliminate bullying from the seed (pun intended). Bullies lack SEL making this book an amazing resource teaching and modelling SEL in elementary! PJ Language Arts Methodology UWindsor
