A1: Engagement starts with building connections #miched Asking personal questions and sharing about personal life helps students get comfortable and engage in the learning process #miched

A1: Engagement is tied to interest- the best practices I have implemented have been those that minimize my talking, and maximize students’ reflection and purpose. This is different than just having them plan their own lessons- perhaps one could think of it as co-teaching! #miched

Alex Shevrin Venet @lalizabee Use of resources like graphic organizers, notes, and textbooks. Having students talk through/review key points at the beginning and end of the lesson together. With my 5th graders we also made a lot of songs/poems of important vocab or steps (novelty helps)

A3: I remember having a student that was the only one keeping their camera consistently on during class. The day their camera went off EVERYONE felt it, I swear. #whatisschool

A4) The biggests impacts I have had are the moments I make myself available for casual conversations with students. They have few people to talk to nowadays, so making sure they know they can just rant about an interest with me had been my best tactic! #whatisschool

A5) The biggest things I have wanted to try, but haven’t found a way to do one of these online, are mindfulness activities. One of the best things we could do for our students right now is teach them how to relax, and I wish there were more examples of this #whatisschool
