Angela Johnson, program manager, joined a panel of state leaders and Anson Green, AEL State Director, at the TWC Conference. The Division is a contributing partner on the Bridge to College and Career Success with Capital Idea Houston serving as the fiscal agent and lead agency.

Opportunity Youth continues to lag in educational and workforce outcomes. Defined as young people ages 16 to 24 who neither work nor attend school, the population is growing both nationally and in Texas. Nine students passed the Microsoft Business certification. This was the first cohort offered by HCDE. With a pass rate of 92%, the class was a success. The adult learners will work with a transition specialist to explore career options and address barriers to employment.

Adult Learners completed a Customer Service class. It was the first time that this program was offered in Katy. Twelve students (92%), passed the industry recognized exam. We are proud of their accomplishment and look forward to supporting their employment goals.

The first Business Office Technology class of 2020 began with 15 adult learners at Mayde Creek High.Students will meet for six weeks and take certification exams in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point. Adult learners will be better prepared to obtain careers in administration.
