This weeks #SundayThread BELIEVE VICTIMS & focuses on the ongoing rape trial in France. The courage being shown by #giselepelicot highlights the steps that victims must take for justice. It highlights why victims of sexual violence must be believed. bbc.com/news/articles/…

A powerful thread from Jackie here. Evidence suggests that if a system aims to simply weed out bad apples, employees won’t feel safe in speaking up. As is suggested here many incidents can be dealt with informally and actually by peers themselves.

A need to reduce the fear will increase opportunities to address harm quickly. Not all behaviour needs to be reported if addressed early. Such a culture becomes a supportive one rather than a challenging one. Staff look out for staff. In doing so communities are supported.

Whenever we aren’t addressing harm, we are choosing not to do so. Inaction is an action and as we know actions have consequences

Whilst this piece may shock some, it also presents opportunities to prevent violence. What do you think? Read the comments from the young men. What do we need to do to prevent knives being used. BTW the amnesty & the law won’t achieve this. Over to you bbc.com/news/articles/…

Headlines like this allow the power to remain invisible, free from inspection. Accountability then easier and prevention becomes more achievable

The fact I had to search for this story show how little value society places on young life. Yet more words and the wrong focus on this ongoing issue. news.sky.com/story/teenager…

I’m glad this become a media story. Police leaders are guilty of creating this culture of fear. They call it a call out culture & it’s focusing staff on the wrong issues. PSDs don’t have to be involved in most events. Peers have a role but are seldom the focus

The trauma faced by those who tried to help will be long lasting. Our framing of this issue is all wrong. A past thread on what’s needed. Action not words being the obvious response x.com/graham_goulden…

There’s a fine line between offenders and victims. Often they are the same people. My experience in Scotland taught me this. We must stop looking at this through the wrong lens if we are to address it properly.

This got my active bystander geek to another level. Training B cells to notice 🚩 🚩 to then spur them into action. It’s same for us human beings. There must be a notice step and a form of motivation. monash.edu/news/articles/… #BystanderChat

Write a story. Frame it as a question. Put it in the media and step away despite being told it’s untrue. This folks is the tactics of right wing media & commentators. Are you simply reacting to the story about pub opening time. If so, you are better than that unless…………??

I remember times I was assaulted as a cop. I often remarked in my statement “for no reason at all he came at me”. But was there a reason? Not an excuse but did childhood trauma communicate I was a threat? Are officers really using their trauma awareness? heraldscotland.com/news/24604296.…
