Administrators, remember your veteran teachers probably have more expertise and experience than the people trying to create and sell new curriculum and initiatives to your district. Seek their input first.

Effective superintendents know that morale in their district is a reflection of their leadership. They set the tone for how everyone else is treated.

It’s not just students who need Maslow. Teachers need: 1) feel safe / supported 2) emotional connection/ relationships 3) feel respected 4) attention/ appreciation 5) value within the team 6) Volition/ autonomy 7) innovation/ creativity 8) self care

Effective leaders understand that if you ever throw one teacher under the bus, you have in essence thrown all of them under the bus. If you criticize one teacher in front of students/ parents/colleagues then you have criticized them all. Trust is the foundation of leadership.

Teachers shouldn't have to cover classes, give up planning time, work 20 extra hours a week, take on extra tasks, etc. just to be considered an effective teacher or all in. Teachers give above and beyond already without it becoming the expectation. It's why so many are burned out

A recent survey found 85 percent of school principals are experiencing job-related stress and 48 percent are dealing with burnout. And 1 in 2 principals are considering leaving the field or retiring. They are stressed out too!
