In a disappointing but unsurprising move, Mayor Muriel Bowser once again decided to needlessly antagonize our DC Circulator members by vetoing emergency legislation unanimously passed by Council of DC and championed by Charles Allen . Enough is enough.

We would like to personally thank Phil Mendelson for his swift response in immediately scheduling an override vote and Charles Allen for his continued determination. We have confidence that the Council will do the right thing again and expect an override of the Mayor’s veto.

Local 689 is so grateful to Charles Allen and the whole DC Council for standing firm and supporting the workers of DC Circulator . With a unanimous veto override, the Council has firmly aligned itself with the frontline heroes who moved this region through thick and thin. 🙏🚍

Whether it be getting thousands of folks around our region tonight or rallying for democracy, Local 689 will stand strong. Now and always, democracy is about solidarity, dignity, and freedom for all. We’re ready to fight for it, Kamala Harris. Let’s move this country! 💪🚍🚇🇺🇸

We can’t afford to lose all the progress we have made for workers, for mass transit, and for our whole region. #wemovethisregion washingtonpost.com/local/2024/10/…

New Jersey Democrats have a huge reckoning ahead, one way or the other. This cycle has seen the closest presidential and gubernatorial in decades. They have been on autopilot for too long, nowhere more than in Passaic, which has only lifted a finger once— for its own majority.

I don’t know what to say. This is devastating. A majority of people chose the fascist, vilely anti-immigrant & anti-LGBTQ candidate. All I know is that to get past our atomized, individualistic society, we need to organize & build a mass movement. act.dsausa.org/donate/members…

Community and local organizing are an antidote to despair. Where are you organizing, volunteering, or contributing time or $$ in the wake of these results? We want to highlight some worthy local orgs and efforts. 🫂

Staggering class realignment/shift in working class Harris lost DESPITE major shift of affluent voters her way 2020: Trump wins voters over $100K, 54-52 2024: *Harris* wins voters over $100K, 54-45 2020: Biden wins voters $50K-$100K, 57-42 2024: *Trump* w/ voters $50K-$100K,

LOL at this take. When Bernie lost primaries, those were stinging verdicts for the left. If he or Warren had been nominated then lost to Trump, that would’ve been a stinging verdict for the left. A moderate Dem running a conservative campaign and losing is…not the left’s fault.

It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them. While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they’re right.

Local organizing and volunteer work is one way to stave off dread and bring about change when our electoral systems can’t. We rounded up some local efforts where you can direct your time and resources. buff.ly/3Ch8lv8

What Dems notably failed to do is change the conditions for the decades-long decline of union membership. Bully pulpit, yes. Crucial legislative wins for many union workers, yes. But union membership and density continue to decline, and with it the Democrats’ electoral base.

One thing I think people miss about the fact that many deep red states approved economically progressive ballot measures is that a core difference between a ballot measure and a candidate is the ballot measure is going to do what it says.
