Westminster Hall, within the Palace of Westminster (the Houses of Parliament), was originally built for King William II (son of William the Conqueror) and completed in 1099. It has the largest medieval hammer-beam roof in Europe.

Culture is as real as it gets when it can literally be used to prevent antisocial behaviour. The height of art is a repellant to the repugnant.

My home town #Croydon on 31st December 1909. On the right J.B. Shakespeare has only recently been demolished and sadly left as a pile of rubble. Lovely to see the original trams 100 years before the current Tramlink.

This brilliant illustration is of King's Manor house doorway in #York which was commissioned by King Charles I during the 17th century. If one looks at the bottom of the arch, one can see the Kings 'IR' initials etched in on both sides.

The public houses of London are treasure troves of political and social history. Some of our episodes touch on the history of a property, others the culture and climate of the pubs which saw our best and worst during their toughest and their greatest times. 🍺 Britain's Lost & Living Pubs

This painting depicts the view of the 'City of 'London' from the south bank, before the Great Fire of #London in 1666. One can see the Old (Gothic) St Paul's Cathedral at the top of #Ludgate Hill. In the foreground sits Baynard's Castle (by the river) it would never be rebuilt.

Of all the architectural “progress” made in the 60s, the demolition of the Nottingham Victoria Station has to be one of the most abjectly depressing transformations I’ve seen… Good grief!
