In the past week, the Congolese Association of Windsor-Essex (COCOWE) and its president Kagayo Jacques Lehani has once again partnered with Collège Boréal in Windsor by signing a lease agreement valid until 2025.
Embracing diversity has been transformational for me. Humble by the people have had the privilege to meet, friends have made, colleagues or community leaders I have worked with, I am now more than ever aware of my white male privilege. #diversity #love #whitemaleprivilege
Day 3
My quote of Dr.King is:
"Make a career of humanity. Commit yourself to the noble struggle for equal rights. You will make a better person of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live in."

Day 4
At times, I myself, have been guilting for not providing the necessary space for anger, letting my white male fragility become the center point of the discussion. Today I want to apologize to anyone I haven't heard and potentially hurt in the process.

Day 5
“Racism is so deeply woven into the fabric of our society that I do not see myself escaping from that continuum in my lifetime. But I can continually seek to move further along it. Robin Diangelo

Day 6
How does white privilege show up?
Peggy McIntosh's list
15. I did not have to educate our children to be aware of systemic racism for their own daily physical protection.
41. I can be sure that if I need legal or medical help, my race will not work against me.
Day 8
"Merriam-Webster defines apathy as "lack of feeling or emotions; lack of interest or concern" and gives the synonyms "indifference, unconcern, passivity, detachment, insensitivity, dispassion, disregard."

Day 7
Through my journey not only have I faced my white fragility but regardless of how progressive I thought I was I have definitely let my male fragility get in the way of deeply understanding gender inequities. I seek now to practice allyship consistently

Day 9
“If here's one thing that bonds women of all background, it is the classic experience of the failed intervention; you're at a meeting, you make a point, then a short silence follows, and after a few awkward seconds some man picks up where he had just left off” Mary Beard
Day 11
The good/bad binary
You probably have heard this before:
"He's not a racist. He is a really nice guy"
"If, as a white person, I conceptualize racism as a binary and I place myself on the "not racist" side, what further action is required of me? No action is required.”
Day 12
"If you do not examine your own reactions to being called out then you will stay in a state of fragility, and you will continue to weaponize this fragility against BIPOC by centering yourself as the victim and refusing to apologize or change your behavior.” Layla F. Saad
Day 13
Allyship
"The first thing to understand is that allyship is not an identity but a practice. A person with white privilege does not get to proclaim themselves an ally to BIPOC but rather seeks to practice allyship consistently.” Layla F.Saad
Day 14
"If we become adults who explicitly oppose racism, as do many, we often organize our identity around denial of our racially based privileges that reinforce racist disadvantage for others.”
Day 15
“Changing the day-to-day experiences of people in the workplace means you have to change the culture. That means you need all employees at every level to activate and to be part of the solution,” says Rachel Thomas

Day 16
“Quality of neighborhoods inhabited by affluent Blacks is lower in absolute terms compare to their affluent counterparts across metropolitan areas generally, but Residential segregation continues to be the structural linchpin in America's system of racial stratification”
Day 17
"Iceland has also been named by "The Economist" as the best country to be a working woman. Please remember there is no such thing as a woman who doesn't work. There is only a woman who isn't paid for her work." Caroline Criado Perez, Invisible
