I get it. I do. But Social Security is more than just a retirement safety net. It’s a critical safety net for widows and their kids, too. Not everyone has $$ left over to put in a retirement plan and to buy life insurance.

These 1950’s dinner parties were women’s labor. Usually without acknowledgement of the extraordinary work involved. Nothing is stopping people from choosing to put in the work to do them if they wanted to. But what they want is women to do it and they just show up.

This is what happens when you don’t think about the big picture of what makes the graph. Teen pregnancy declined by 18% from 2008-2010. The ‘decline in fertility’ is driven almost entirely by a decline in teen pregnancies. It’s not a bad thing.
