Pennsylvania is offering $2,500 to districts for teacher apprenticeships. But let’s be clear: This isn’t a fix, it’s a bandage. Until the job is respected, supported, and sustainable, the pipeline will keep leaking. #edchat whyy.org/articles/penns…

“You have such an easy job!” “You don’t work many hours!” “You get to go home at 3!” “You get summers off!” “You have so many breaks during the year!” IF IT’S SO GREAT, why does America currently have the biggest teaching shortage in U.S. history?

Schools spend hours trying to “reach” the kid who openly doesn’t care, while the kid who tries every day quietly gets ignored. We’re exhausting ourselves chasing resistance instead of investing in effort.

A couple decades ago, way too many school districts cut vocational programs to chase test scores and the philosophy that ‘everyone must go to college’. Big mistake. Not every student needs calculus, but every community needs plumbers, electricians, and mechanics.

Schools exist to support families, not replace parents. That means parents need to actually parent, and the govt & communities need to stop treating schools as the fix for bad parenting. If you’re an educator who thinks otherwise, you’ve watched too many teacher hero movies.

On avg, in the United States, substitute teachers earn between $70 and $130 per day. (Yes, I know some districts pay more…but this is the avg.) For most subs, the work day is 7.5 hours long. That makes their hourly rate $13.33. 🙄🤦🏻‍♂️ And often, they have to work during their 1

Consider this…many people HONESTLY BELIEVE teachers have an ‘easy job, with short hours, summers off, and amazing benefits’ AND YET, in the past 8 years, states have had a record number of teachers leaving the profession with fewer prospects than ever.

Educators…If you had to cast an actor or actress to play the perfect teacher, who would you choose? I’ll start…Steve Carell Funny but caring and we’ve all had a slightly awkward teacher like him.

8 of the Costliest Areas of Waste in School District Spending 1. Administrative Bloat 2. Underutilized Facilities 3. Inefficient technology purchases. Schools often buy expensive or quickly outdated technology without a clear implementation plan, resulting in wasted funds 4.

When schools require teachers to offer retakes & accept late work, they ALSO need to provide teachers the extra time those requirements take.

When local & federal governments as well as DOEs & school districts STOP acting as the catch-all solution for every challenge a child faces, whether at home or in society, they can finally focus on what they were meant to do….EDUCATE.

Should public schools in the U.S. continue to fund athletic programs, or should sports be moved to community-based organizations like in much of Europe?
