I just got dhcpcd to work in Fil-C, so I can do memory safe DHCP resolution All I had to change was 17 lines in the rbtree.h header (it had a tagged ptr, had to change the type from uintptr_t to struct rb_node*)

One of the craziest C features that Fil-C supports in a totally memory-safe way is setjmp/longjmp. Today I made that support even better. The key insight to making setjmp/longjmp safe is that it's safe to longjmp to a jmp_buf that was made by a setjmp call in a frame that is

Status of Fil-C. - Reliably achieves memory safety for C and C++ with stronger guarantees than rewriting in Java or Rust. Much stronger guarantees than asan/valgrind/softbound/hwasan/mte (those aren’t memory safe at all! Too easy to bypass). Similar guarantees to CHERI, just on

still off twitter, but wanted to say I'm running my blog server built with Fil-C in prod. Had to fix one minor issue in one thirdparty library, and other than that its worked flawlessly. I feel much better about moving more of my backends from js/py to C now.

I love the Fil-C name but it is confusing - makes folks think that this is a language. It’s not. It’s a memory safe implementation of C and C++. Maybe it should be called filcc Or maybe there’s a better name I haven’t thought of yet

It's cool to see all of the success folks are having with AI. We are living in a wild time and folks involved in this new tech should be very proud of themselves. However, it's worth remembering that all of these computer science hype cycles suffer from reporting bias. Here's
