Some reforms sound sensible but others could be devastating. It’s also a massive tightening of DfE grip over LA spending, which is bad for local democracy. It’s DfE’s own #SEND reforms and lack of funding that have left councils with little choice but to cave in. 2/2

The only thing now stopping some councils going bust altogether is a government accounting wheeze that let’s everyone pretend for a few years that multimillion pound holes aren’t there. Perfect example of ‘sticking plaster’ politics schoolsweek.co.uk/ministers-mull…

I asked ChatGPT to "tell me a story about a boy and a girl choosing their careers". The boy became a "successful doctor", the girl a "beloved teacher". So... same old same old. #biasinmotion 1/3

I've only skimmed this report (did a search for physics). There are some truly depressing statistics in there. Shift in gender split between #GCSE and #ALevel in #Physics and #Maths is horrific. I assume it will be as bad in Scotland for N5 -> Higher. We need to do better.

@CommonsSTC Concerning - @CommonsSTC finds children & young people from black Caribbean backgrounds are “acutely” underrepresented in maths, science & technology subjects in England, & girls make up just 13% of computing A-level students & 23% of physics #STEM theguardian.com/education/2023… Sally Weale

Every teachers’ and headteachers’ union has now rejected the government’s miserable pay offer. Time for government to stop mucking round and get into meaningful talks to deliver a fair pay rise. Oh, and what goes for teachers goes for civil servants as well!!!
