Here it is! A huge milestone in neuroscience – the complete connectome of the fly brain from the FlyWire team (FlyWire). In this special issue, we have 9 research articles. I’ll try to summarize them in a couple threads starting here 🧵

If you want to understand the brain, should you work as a neuroscientists in the lab? Or teach the subject for students? Or simply read textbooks and papers while having a normal job? In this blog post, I share some thoughts on this topic. gcamp6f.com/2025/01/08/ann…

I create the Python Developer Tooling Handbook to address these gaps. It doesn't replace blog posts, documentation, or great sites like Real Python. Instead, it provides a comprehensive, opinionated, up-to-date source on all things developer tooling. pydevtools.com

A few months ago we quietly open-sourced a PyTorch video decoding library called torchcodec -- small, nimble, fast. The LeRobot folks had some nice things to say about it.

Feels like we're reaching a tipping point for technologies that will unlock whole brain emulation, e.g. a team from China just announced an optical method for cellular resolution monitoring of activity across mesoscale networks than span the whole mouse brain. 👇

The uv build backend is now stable, and considered ready for production use. An alternative to setuptools, hatchling, etc. for pure Python projects, with a focus on good defaults, user-friendly error messages, and performance. When used with uv, it's 10-35x faster.
