1. You should have received a polling card stating where your local polling station is, although there are websites such as wheredoivote.co.uk which can give you this information if you don’t have it. You don’t need your polling card or any ID in order to vote.

2. You will be asked for your name and address before being given two ballots to fill in - one for your constituency and one for your regional list. On the constituency ballot, you will be asked to vote for a specific candidate. This is then elected by First Past the Post.

3. This means that whoever wins the most votes is elected. Your regional list ballot is for a party as opposed to a candidate. This is then elected by Proportional Representation affected by the constituency results, so parties underrepresented by constituencies still get MSPs.

4. The results of the election will be declared over the course of Friday and Saturday. Friday will see approximately two thirds of the constituencies declared whereas Saturday will see the remaining third followed by the regional list results.
