Please congratulate your 2023 #EucalyptoftheYear, the spectacular Sydney Red Gum, Angophora costata! The Sydney Red Gum is synonymous with the sandstone escarpments of coastal NSW. This is the first year that an Angophora has taken out the gum gong! #NationalEucalyptDay

If the time between fires (intervals) is too short, plants have insufficient time to grow seeds. Without seeds, some plants are at "immaturity risk" if another fire occurs. But do these "immaturity risk" intervals depend on fire severity? 1/ fireecology.springeropen.com/articles/10.11…

The UK is experiencing a shift in fire regime & it's happening faster than many of us expected. We're making strides in preparedness & response thanks to strong leadership CFOA & other communities/stakeholders, but we're still playing catch up @UKFDRS theguardian.com/world/2023/may…

There's an official government petition to raise the PhD stipends in Australia to $45k. Their current rate of less than $30k makes it impossible to focus on research and will have long term impacts on Australian trained scientists. Sign it! aph.gov.au/e-petitions/pe…

New paper of planned burning during Black Summer. "During extreme fire events, recent fuel reduction burning can aid wildfire suppression locally but will have a highly variable effect on the extent and severity of wildfires at larger scales." sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Standard practice in Australia, newsworthy in the UK Interesting to see how people are having to adapt to changing fire regimes. Headline makes it sound kinda negative though
