'Tens of thousands of submissions on the Treaty Principles Bill will not be read by members of the Parliamentary committee considering the high-profile bill, and may never make it into the official record.'

'Labour MP, and member of the Justice Select Committee, Duncan Webb put a motion to the committee to extend the reporting back deadline.

Extending the deadline would ensure all submissions became part of the official record, and also make it possible for members to easily access, search and read the submissions ahead of writing their final report to the House.

Now that's a win for democracy! It has been agreed that all Treaty Principle Bill submissions will be added to the public record.

The Treaty Principles Bill was voted down a few moments ago. Parliament rejected it with only the ACT Party supporting it – roughly the same proportions as the submissions to the select committee, which were 90% opposed.

The National Party gave David Seymour what ever he wanted to get into power - including his own Ministry for Regulation. This Ministry is a waste of money - just like the Treaty Principles Bill was.

What is more while we don't have enough to pay nurses, doctors, teachers, lab workers and many other front line workers the staff at this ministry - who are by definition back office workers are amongst the highest paid in the public sector.

We want rules that work - but a Ministry of clipboard-holders who are checking on other public servants is a waste of money and an exercise is ideology and vanity. rnz.co.nz/news/political…

It’s back to Wellington to oppose this nasty government. Here is a quick break down of why the pay equity changes are so bad🤮

Duncan_Webb_ (@duncan_webb_) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Let's use this social worker example again, if you looked at Oranga Tamariki for example, it's all social workers. You need to look outside of the industry to compare.

The key takeaway is this: this is a genuine step backwards for women in work. The Govt. have made it clear they want to spend their money elsewhere. Not on fairer pay for women, but on tax breaks for landlords, tobacco companies and their other donor mates.

Retrospective legislation is not unknown - but I have never heard of legislation to change the law applicable to a case that has been ongoing for several years, let alone one that does it in favour of big banks and against the interests of consumers. linkedin.com/pulse/whats-wr…
