British Heart Foundation funds more than 50% of cardiovascular research in the UK, leading to major advances in the fight against heart and circulatory disease. I will be cycling approximately 100km #L2B2025 on 15th June to raise funds for this amazing charity. justgiving.com/team/cardiaccy…

DHSC are genuinely afraid of strikes so their solution is … putting up posters in your hospital. They know how to settle the dispute. Show the govt that doctors won’t rest until we get full pay restoration.

Delighted with my recent election success with British Cardiovascular Society and my first national role as a consultant. Big up the non-surgical centres! Congrats to the other newly appointed committee members too.

RIP John Geddes: one of the pioneers of the coronary care unit, pacemakers and cardiac defibrillators (both implantable and AEDs). We have a lot to thank him for. My dad wouldn’t be with us today that’s for sure. The BMJ British Cardiovascular Society BJCA 📊 #CardioEd #CardioX

Congenital heart disease (#CHD) is the term used to describe a number of different problems that affect how well the #heart works. The word “congenital” means the problem occurs while the fetus is being formed, meaning the condition is present at birth.❤️

Love this obituary in this weeks The BMJ of Dr Judith Steel, founder of the first pre-pregnancy clinic and physician in Fife. Her husband Prof Michael Steel lectured us at St Andrews in the early 2000’s. Also, how many so called generalists are also treating other species!?!?

Thanks to the crucial work by BCS Women in Cardiology & colleagues. I’ve never come across some many women keen on a career in cardiology (F1-IMT2), 7 at the last count in South Yorkshire alone & I’m sure there’s a lot more. I just hope we can convert that potential into NTNs & NTNs into CCTs!

Realities we should be telling junior academics: 1. There are not as many senior medical academic posts as there are junior ones, many will not make it. 2. There are not enough hours in the day to have everything in life and you have to make tough decisions.

Despite women making up 47% of surgical residents and 29% of academic surgeons, 73% have witnessed negative commentary around pregnancy during training. It’s time to end the silence & support women in medicine through pregnancy and loss. jamanetwork.com/journals/jamas… #WomenInSurgery
