On the train to Ottawa for meetings. I'm feeling numb at the the eerie sight of these smoky skies. It's June 6 and the whole country is in flames. There are active wildfires in practically every province & territory of what is currently called Canada. #cdnpoli 1/

Connect the dots: bad air quality, caused by Canadian wildfires, intensified by global warming, caused by fossil fuels, produced by companies like ExxonMobil, who lied for decades about the impacts of their product.

Stark reminder of why I’m at the Bonn UN climate talks this week pushing for the rapid phase-out of fossil fuels and phase-in of renewables. Recent fires have ravaged so many places I love across Canada. “Smoke” is now a weather pattern on my weather app. #SB58 #cdnpoli

Particularly jarring this morning to see arguments in the media to abandon or slow down climate change policies when much of the country, including the national capital itself, is blanketed in smoke from climate change-fuelled wildfires #SelfDeception #Denial

Sometimes a crisis hits so hard that a country needs help from others to overcome it. That’s not one-way humanitarian saviourism, it’s international solidarity. 200 South African firefighters land in Edmonton, Canada to help fight the wildfire. Sound up 🔊

I know a lot of folks are feeling climate despair right now as we breathe in the latest climate disaster. I’m no doctor, but the best cure I’d recommend is: take action, with friends old and new. Hope is renewable. Go out and fight for it.

Once again, homophobes and transphobes were outnumbered in a big way by Drag Story Time defenders. The kids and families had a great time, and we sent a powerful message: that hate won’t go unopposed in our city. While today was a success, we shouldn’t be so used to doing this.

No press release or tweet from Poilievre on this incident, while Singh and Trudeau have both tweeted. This was a hate motivated attack directed at the LGBTQ community -- per police. I don't think I've ever seen a national leader be totally silent on something like this before.

SAVE THE DATE: OTTAWA MARCH FOR TRANS RIGHTS, August 25th at 5:30PM 🏳️‍⚧️ This year, as trans people are demonized and stigmatized by anti-rights groups, we need to show up - in numbers - to defend the dignity, humanity and rights of trans, two spirit and gender diverse people.

“For those of you who are interested in statistics, this is a five-sigma event. So it's five standard deviations beyond the mean. Which means that if nothing had changed, we'd expect to see a winter like this about once every 7.5 million years.” abc.net.au/news/2023-07-2…

This move by the #Alberta Gov is mind-boggling. AB has seen the fastest growth of #solar & #wind in #Canada - attracting billions$ of investment, lowering emissions, and creating thousands of good jobs in the process #abpoli 🧵1/6 ow.ly/41Or50PshYJ

This image breaks me. At 2.7 degrees of warming, which is our present policy trajectory, two billion people will be exposed to extreme heat. 99.7% of those people live in the global South. People who have done nothing to cause this crisis. The injustice is staggering.

BREAKING: In a huge win for the planet, 18 jurists from the UN have found that children can sue their own countries over climate change under a treaty called the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Children are now leading a powerful global shift in the law on climate.🙏👊

PM Trudeau was just asked on the world stage United Nations #ClimateAmbitionSummit what he plans to do about Canada being one of the largest fossil fuel expanders. Guess 🇨🇦 won’t be given credit for climate leadership while ignoring its biggest source of climate pollution anymore. #cdnpoli
