Our open letter to the board of Central Bucks SD responds to concerns from parents. It calls on Central Bucks to protect the rights of LGBTQ students and stop creating a hostile environment. The board must reject the proposed policies to remove books. elc-pa.org/wp-content/upl…

Don't miss today's excellent Pennsylvania Capital-Star op-ed on the need for special education funding by Nasharie Stewart, a 2021 grad from William Penn School District. #WeWorkforFunding
PA's "Don't Say Gay" bill mandates "neutrality." But true neutrality would be affirming of all students, not refusing to acknowledge/support the identities of students who are LGBTQ. Well stated in a The Philadelphia Inquirer op-ed by ELC intern Nasharie Stewart! inquirer.com/opinion/commen…
Today's letter is our response to more appalling policies from Central Bucks SD. They seem determined to block any acknowledgment that gay & trans people are part of the school community. Sorry, but you cannot just erase people. And btw it's illegal. elc-pa.org/wp-content/upl…
Thank you to Philadelphia Bar Association for hosting Public Interest Law Day! Our ED, Deborah Gordon Klehr moderated a panel on legislative issues impacting the public-interest community. The panel included Atty. Crisci, and some of our key legislative allies: Senator Art Haywood, @RepDonnaBullock, and @RepMGs.

Joint statement from Education Law Center and Public Interest Law Center on the 2023-24 PA budget (and defeat of private school vouchers). The fight to fix PA's unconstitutional funding system must and will continue. fundourschoolspa.org/news/our-state…
ELC's Deborah Gordon Klehr earlier today: The Commission offers a real opportunity to finally address PA's highly inequitable school funding system and give all children a better chance for success. The challenges we face here in Philly are faced by families in so many underfunded districts.
Testimony from Deborah Gordon Klehr (who is exec director of Education Law Center) at hearing on PA #FreedomToRead bills - H.B. 1506 & S.B. 926. elc-pa.org/wp-content/upl…
“We are prepared to go back to court,” Gordon Klehr of Education Law Center said. “We cannot accept a plan that is politically convenient but fails our students.” We need a plan for constitutional school funding, with real targets based on student need. inquirer.com/education/penn…
“Today is the first anniversary of a big day for PA schoolchildren and for all of us who have tried so hard to achieve an adequate, equitable, and racially just school funding system.” -Deborah Gordon Klehr speaking at the Capitol
.Deborah Gordon Klehr reminded everyone how on the 1st day of trial testimony, the Panther Valley School District supt described a school where 75 kindergartners had to share a single toilet. And then as we thought about the 75 kindergartners, 75 attendees read quotes from the court ruling.
