Wasn't expecting to find frogspawn on a Hawthorn branch whilst checking nest boxes RSPB Bempton Cliffs this afternoon. Any ideas what might have predated it? Dan Lombard
The results are in for this years Tree Sparrow breeding season RSPB Bempton Cliffs... a total of 263 chicks successfully fledged from 48 active boxes. After a poor start to the season we were on track for a bumper year until a Weasel worked out there were easy meals to be had
Fantastic 10day ringing trip to Greece at the wonderful Cape Tenaro Birder has come to an end which saw us record 442 birds of 33 sp in that period. Highlights include Rüppell's, Eastern Orphean & Bonelli's Warbler, Collared Flycatcher, multiple Wryneck and Hoopoe & a bonus Hawfinch
Here they come UK birdwatchers! Strong departure of birds on bird radar in the Waddensea. All heading towards UK, #migration, Trektellen.org, Bart Hoekstra (@barthoekstra.bsky.social)
Details of two Goldcrest caught RSPB Bempton Cliffs during October #migweek 2023; the first (red) originally ringed on Skagen, Denmark on 23rd September 780km away and the second (yellow) ringed here & then recaught 7 days later in Great Stukeley in Cambridgeshire 198km away. Cool!
Just learnt that one of the Blackcap we tagged here RSPB Bempton Cliffs on 21st October last year as part of a UK-wide project to understand the migration ecology of this species was detected in the Netherlands nine days later and then arrived in Germany on 4th November. Awesome data
Bempton's second Red-flanked Bluetail following one in 2009. Found by the lovable Richard Cope. Great bird for #migweek and continues a run of awesome birds for the reserve this autumn
