In my tap classes with younger students, I introduce improv from day 1. We play “call and answer” games every class, even with the toddlers. They get to understand that it’s more than just steps. Drop a 👞🎵 in the comments if you love tap dance. #tapdance #danceeducation

The first thing I teach brand new tap dancers ages 7+ is walking in rhythm. We walk heel toe (dig, toe drop) traveling forward and toe heel (step, heel drop) traveling back. Walking is a dancer’s first groove. It lays the foundation for everything that comes next. #tapdance

It took me a long time to find my voice as a choreographer. I always had this feeling that I was “less than”, that my work couldn’t possibly be as good as [insert name here]. I don’t know when my mindset changed, but it feels free to be comfortable in making work that is mine.

At the end of every day, I say to myself, “Today was a successful day” or “Today was not a successful day.” Small victories and moments of connection make it a successful day. Nothing major. It feels really good when I say that to myself, “Today was successful.” #DanceEducation

Every six weeks, I get to welcome a brand new group of adult absolute beginner tap dancers to my studio. Seeing adults step out of their comfort zones, embrace a new challenge and discover the pure FUN of it is why I love what I do. It’s never too late to start. 💃✨ #tapdance

TLDR: Goals are overrated sometimes. Do the work and find the joy. I never danced with the goal of being a professional dancer. It was in my bones to always be training, to seek any source of education I could find, because I loved it. I never, ever thought I’d be a Rockette.

I’ll often give the same correction to a dancer over and over, class after class, and it won’t quite get applied. This doesn’t frustrate me. I work to find more ways to say it and frame it if it’s not clicking with them. The student is giving what they can that day. #tapdance

Your instincts know things your mind hasn’t caught up with yet. That feeling in your gut? It’s a signal, not a suggestion. Follow it first—reflect on the why after. #IntuitionMatters #danceeducation

Dance training teaches endless, invaluable life lessons at any age. 2 year-olds learn spacial awareness and gross motor skills. 50 year-olds learn how to align themselves to ensure healthy knees, hips and backs and how to move with confidence. The list goes on and on. #DanceEd
