We exist to abolish all forms of discrimination at Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and to empower labour towards this goal.

None of this is about 'photo ethics'. That should be absolutely obvious. It's about catastrophic failures of patient care due to deep seated structural racism. Patients rights are human rights. Please follow Decolonise MSF x.com/DecoloniseMsf/…

BLAST FROM THE PAST: thenewhumanitarian.org/news/2020/06/2… ‘We are taking a hard look at how to confront racism and discrimination within our organisation.’ NEWS FLASH: Two years on, MSF is still in the process of taking a hard look at itself. Saves itself the trouble of doing something.

De-humanising black and brown kids in the global south is one of the symptoms of MSF International’s coloniality. MSF International is a neo-colonial organisation in it’s governance, in it’s structure, in it’s culture and eventually it all reflects in it’s function like the #MSF_Photo_scandal.

duckrabbit MSF International MSF Sea @NSAgerup In my experience it's all about 'assumed consent' rather than 'informed consent'. In other words, you point a camera at someone and if they don't run away or shout at you then it's OK to go ahead. Has anyone explained how truly informed consent might work in practice?

Very similar to how MSF International dehumanises it’s national staff which is more than 90% of the organisation. MSF logic: Just use a broad colonial lens and generalise people and contexts.

@QRJCardiff Such things happen regularly within #photojournalism. People are receiving industry awards for photographing children being abused, all in the name of ‘brave journalism’. Perhaps it’s time for a wider conversation. Less Than Human Debate duckrabbit Decolonise MSF Chirag Wakaskar (चिराग वाकसकर)

“Helicopter research” is bad. “Helicopter aid” is much worse. Living inside barricades, segregated from national staff, throwing paracetamol from our land-cruisers. Securitisation of MSF International has completely destroyed the humanitarian spirit within our beloved organisation.
