Most SaaS companies are invisible to ChatGPT and Perplexity. Not because their product is bad but because they’re missing the content AI actually cites: comparison pages, public pricing, named case studies. I built a free 30-second scorecard to check yours:

Zach Mao, head of marketing at Averi: "Your competitor ranks for a million keywords. You maybe rank for 200. They're not outworking you. They're outsmarting you." Open Search Console. Count your indexed pages. That's not a content problem. That's a page count problem.

Personio's HR lexicon has 540+ pages. 48 of them target UK and Ireland HR terms specifically. Those 48 pages alone pull 210,000 visits a month. They didn't write one glossary. They wrote several.

Open your highest-traffic glossary page. Copy the text. Could a competitor paste it on their site and it would still make sense? If yes, the page has nothing to do with your product. That's a tier 2 page. It ranks. It doesn't convert.

Alternatives keywords convert at 8.43%. "Best project management software" converts at 4.85%. Nearly double. Someone searching "Asana alternatives" has already done their research. They're closer to switching. Search your category + alternatives right now and see who shows up.

Josh Spilker was ClickUp's only marketer when they had 15 people. He built 35 alternative pages — one per competitor. The monday.com page alone drove 31% of their comparison traffic. One person. No agency. Go search "[top competitor] alternative" and see if you show

A remote executive assistant company. DR 28. No brand recognition. They published 5 articles targeting alternatives keywords. All 5 ranked top 3 within weeks. Their competitors hadn't written these pages. Low domain rating isn't your problem. Not having the page is.

"Photoshop alternative" gets 27,000 searches a month. Most of those land on affiliate blogs — written by someone who hasn't used the tools, ranked by commission rate. You could have that page instead. Search your category + alternatives and see who controls it right now.

And yet people will tell you it’s not worth doing. If your SaaS has an API or MCP, it won’t hurt and generating it along your feed or sitemap is easy.

An SEO agency inserted a time tracking client into searches for "Toggl vs Clockify." Their client had no search volume of its own. They ranked within weeks. Nobody needs to be searching for you. They just need to be searching for your competitor.
