On this day in 1920, the Royal North-West Mounted Police and the Dominion Police merged to become the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Aylesworth Bowen Perry, the Commissioner of the NWMP, was appointed the first Commissioner of the RCMP. He served until 1923.
