Duke football starts fast, rolls past Charlotte Football in nonconference game in Durham charlotteobserver.com/sports/college…
Happy birthday Mike Solarte, enjoy it pal!
Just heard that Bob Benson, owner of Charlotte’s original pro soccer franchise the Carolina Lightnin’, died Thursday. Benson hired soccer star Rodney Marsh💙™️ to coach the team, which won the ASL title in ‘81. Championship match drew 20,000+ to Memorial Stadium.
An The Charlotte Observer subscriber exclusive: 40 years ago, before MJ, Tepper and Shinn, a Charlotte sports pioneer laid the foundation for much of what we see today. Bob Benson died last week at 83, and undoubtedly you've never heard of him. Let's change that: charlotteobserver.com/sports/spt-col…
Arlo White’s been saying young CB Nat Phillips turned down a scholarship at UNC Men's Soccer to play at Liverpool FC. It was actually Charlotte Men's Soccer.

Nicolas Batum begins post-game press conference reiterating his condolences for Rick Bonnell's family/friend. Batum: "He's the best. I'm going to miss him." Batum then shared his appreciation for his coverage on the Hornets and his piece on Batum's family.
Thanks, Carolina Panthers. What a great gesture.
Great story here by Scott Fowler on Tony Suarez, Charlotte’s first soccer star. I was front and center for Tony’s magical season in ‘81 and beyond. Scott captures it all perfectly. The Charlotte Observer edition.pagesuite.com/popovers/dynam…
I spent many hours in NASCAR media centers and on press row at Davidson Basketball and Charlotte Hornets games with Hill Overton, one of the kindest and nicest men I’ve ever known. RIP, Hill. Who’s gonna ask the first question now?
