Sadly, incidents like this are inevitable whilst cyclists have to share roads with 🚗. We really must learn from others and sort out our infrastructure so that cycling can be safe. This needs serious political backing.

Don’t rely upon ‘communities’ to solve this…….good Architects, backed by enlightened developers and a supportive planning authority is needed.

At least there was an attempt to engage with the street with 4 storeys of brick. There are so few examples of glass towers hitting the ground in a meaningful way.

Sadly, most UK citizens have no intention of adopting cycling as a plausible means of transport, it’s for those saddos who haven’t got a car. We need sound initiatives that get people on a bike…to realise how much fun it is and that it makes sense as a means of transport.

There’s been a few attempts in the past to get this sort of thing off the ground in Morecambe. When we tried 10 years ago, the property values just did not stack up and it got no further. Things have improved since, so hopefully this might see the light of day. Good luck.

One of my early projects at BDP was to convert the derelict Dock Traffic Office to a news gathering station for ITV Granada Reports It was cutting edge news reporting at the time and gave new life to a wonderful building. Good to see it has now found a new use more than 30 years on.

There is also the reluctance of volume house builders to build in quantity and with speed because of their desire not to ‘flood’ the market whilst operating a simplistic construction model. Cash flow and borrowing costs further hampers supply.
