Good morning! Here's what I think you should know about climate and VC this week (thanks to an inbox full of great stuff from Sightline Climate (CTVC) & Climate Nexus) 👀🧠...

last week the final IPCC report (3/3) came out and it'll be the last one before we know whether we will have made our last ditch attempt to prevent 1.5 degrees celsius of warming. (we'll either miss the boat or save the world by the time we hear from them again)

according to the wise folks at Sightline Climate (CTVC) , here are our ways to lower net emissions by 2030, measured also by the impact they have. (The highlighted ones are areas that have received investment.)

If we want to read this data like a map, we need VCs to invest in ecosystem reforestation (and we need founders to come up with solutions) and we should keep hammering shipping/transportation, energy efficiency and carbon removal… no more scooters!

the big headline: 🚨By the end of April we will hit 420 ppm (parts per million) by the end of the month which is the highest observed CO2 level in the past 4.5 million years. 🚨

That’s the headline, but there is so much more to the story— global methane emissions were higher in 2021 than ever before. (Methane warms the planet at a faster rate than other gases.)

Microplastics have been found in 17 out of 22 sample patient's blood & lungs. (also the ocean & air, but I like Madeleine MacGillivray 's realistic perspective on this-- it'll be human health that motivates people to actually do something about this, not dying ecosystems & animals.)

ok, so what? anxiety spiral? there are a few things you can do, actually:

🚨 share the investing context with anyone who invests (or COULD invest) in climate futures... VC, angel, regular person with $2500 and good intentions. TLDR: invest in reforestation, shipping/transportation, energy efficiency & carbon removal… there are enough scooters. 🙃
