I edited this video and it reached 20 million views on my Tiktok over the weekend, it's an art performance of Yoann Bourgeois I had the chance to film. I added a Sigur Ros song to match the movements of the dancer.

Want to conduct research on individual differences in learning to read in an additional language? Interested in eye-movements during reading? Curious about analysing longitudinal data? These PhD positions in the Reading Lab and bilingualism lab at McMaster might be for you!

New paper led by Filip Nenadíc out in JEP: Learning, Memory, and Cognition! We looked at semantic richness effects during spoken word recognition. Honoured to have played a small part in this amazing research. psycnet.apa.org/doiLanding?doi…

Fellow reading/L2/education researchers. I’m looking for some advice on where to submit an ms. I wrote a paper on which language variables (vocab, reading rate, etc.) predict future GPAs of ESLs who went thru a bridging program. Having trouble finding a journal that’ll take it.

A new postdoc position in the crepaldiLab at SISSA! The post is for 21 months, starting ideally in Feb/Mar 24. We'll research statistical learning and reading, with a flexible research agenda - from neuroimaging to computational modeling. DM me for details on the project.

🚨 #NewPaper We asked 140+ English learners to fill out a reading habits log each week over 26 weeks of English instruction. We found that they became more efficient readers and that those who read more than their peers made greater gains in reading speed frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…

New paper with Seina Yamada and Anna Moro on bridging program EAL students. What predicts their GPAs after the program? Random forest model ranked importance of 20+ reading and literacy skills. Gains in reading speed (eye movements 👁️) near the top link.springer.com/article/10.100…

Really enjoyed day 1 of Lauren Fink ‘s workshop “Learning Pupillometry: From Theory to Analyses”. Learned a lot about neurobiology of pupil dilation response, analysis techniques, and… the potential for eye-movement recording of seals 🦭

In 1820, only 1 in 10 people over the age of 15 could read. Today, the corresponding global literacy rate — the share of adults aged 15 and older who can read and write — is 87%. That means more than 5 billion people can read and write today, compared to fewer than 100 million
