I am honored to co-chair the 20th anniversary edition of the DaMoN Workshop at ACM SIGMOD/PODS today with Nesime Tatbul. We start at 10:00am after the PODS keynote and have an exciting program with 3 invited talks, the 20th anniversary panel and many great talks: damon-db.org/#sec-ind-2.

#DAMON2024 ACM SIGMOD/PODS kicked off with a keynote by Philippe Bonnet: “NVMe and Data Systems: A Decade and Counting”

Anastasia Ailamaki Manos Athanassoulis Peter Boncz Bonnet DaMoN Workshop We are starting the first session at DaMoN Workshop with a talk about efficient varint support in open table formats using vectorized instructions.

We moved to the second talk on open table formats and NULLs. This shows the need for modern hardware support in cloud databases which process Arrow or Parquet file formats.

The team from TUM is talking about hash table designs for joins which received one of the two best paper awards at DaMoN Workshop

The morning session is now concluded by the second best paper (short paper) by a team from Boston University about an hardware efficient solution for sampling from SSDs for GNNs.

We have now started in the afternoon with a invited talk by Turing Award Winner Dave Patterson.
