This #BoerWar memorial is located in a prominent and elevated position within Castle Park, where it forms a focal point. The memorial was unveiled at its original location outside #Penrith Town Hall in a ceremony on 1 March 1906. It was subsequently moved in 1964. #Cumberland

The Cumberland flag was registered in 2012. The Parnassus flower is a wild flower of the marshy uplands and was chosen as the county flower of #Cumberland, growing here on a green field. The wavy blue and white stripes represent the coastline and the famed lakes of the county.

The #HistoricCounties are the geography of the United Kingdom. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) explicitly recommend them as such. Far easier to describe geographical locations by use of geography, rather than admin zones, which frequently change. Perhaps Ordnance Survey could follow this lead? 🤔
