It was a wonderful but heavy-hearted Father's Day, as I reflected on my own dad who passed away in February. My 4 kids surprised me with a bench with a plaque. facebook.com/share/p/1C836Y…

Excited to share I’ve completed my M.Sc. in Plant Ag at U of G in the NEO-Ag Group. After defending in January, I convocated in June. A huge thanks to Joshua Nasielski and John Lauzon as well as committee member Dave Hooker whose guidance shaped my time here.

Hey Peter Johnson! I know you appreciate crop physiology. Here, dicamba was accidentally sprayed on the edge of this wheat adjacent to corn about a mo. ago, just before heading. No kernels. But note the canopy staying green because there is no partitioning to the grain. Cool.

This is kinda silly-- corn in gravel update. About 50% of aboveground biomass compared to the field, but better than expected. :)

For the first time, I sprayed preharvest RU on some Canada thistle patches in wheat. About 10 d ago. Why didn't I do this before? I didn't tramp or shatter much wheat following tramlines.

Wagon tire blew while unloading wheat. Thankfully, I was on the other side when it blew otherwise i'd be dead. I have been replacing these w used 445/65R22.5 truck tires over the yrs but now rethinking to replace all with new Firestone VFs. Thoughts? Cc: Adam Pfeffer

Looking for a good JD 9400 combine or JD 359 engine aft the one we have overheated. Upsetting bc the overheating could have been prevented. We use the combine to break out or cleanup research plots. Budget extremely tight. :( Leads welcome. SW Ontario. Photo for attention.

In farming, it’s easy to believe that more acres = more profit. “If I can spread my costs over more ground, I’ll make more money.” On paper, it makes sense. In reality, it’s a trap that has caught a lot of good operators off guard. 🧵

Kudos to my research technician extraordinaire Ken VanRaay for engineering this unit to place fertilizer efficiently in tilled strips using a Pluribus strip tiller for research. This also opens the door for more experiments. Proposals or research contracts welcome.

A weird request. I'm looking for corn seedlings of any vegetative stage that I could dig up for my students to stage next week. Maybe around an elevator? Between London and Ridgetown. Thx. Photo for attention. :)

FACT: The farmers who contact me most often make the most money. They aren’t wealthy because of what I am telling them. They have done well because they are constant learners and humble enough to get advice and feedback from others. AKA they are investing in themselves.

Poor residue spread behind the combine with tremendous affect on wheat growth and development. Was a relatively new combine but that doesn't factor. Guessing 40 bpa lost yield potential in high residue strips. What you say @wheatpete?
