Both reviewers recommend acceptance of the manuscript and have only minor technical revisions. Then an Editor comes up with a TOTALLY UNRELATED criticism, and the EIC AGREES with that and rejects the manuscript based on the Editors comments.

Only possible explanation: both Editor and EIC never even read the abstract. But it got worse..Many co-authors were outraged, so we APPEALED the decision. The response by the EIC was outrageous and could even be considered funny if it was not so sad.

EIC in his response totally changed the critical comment and argued that this was what what he and the Editor "meant"..still did not make any sense..but based on this new comment the EIC confirmed his decision. We have to do better than that! #ASMicrobiology #mbiojournal

Society journals that lack any objectivity&dont follow the principles of peer review, but only publish science based on the names of the authors, are NOT supporting science but in fact do the opposite. Based on our experience this is unfortunately true for #mbiojournal
