No complaints on how Lamar Jackson has handled his contract negotiations. He put up the best fight for a fully guaranteed contract. The structure of his current contract has given him a tremendous amount of leverage. Whether he fully exploits it is up to him.

Under NFL CBA Article 8, Section 1(b), a player under contract doesn't get an accrued season (year of service for free agency) with a failure to report to training camp on time. Getting 6 games on the 53-man roster, IR or PUP doesn't matter when this happens.

There will be a resolution by the start of training camp or few days into at the latest. It was 2 weeks into training camp in 2018 before the Bears & Roquan Smith reached a compromise on guarantees voiding for an ejection or suspension from a game for violating NFL playing rules.

The Chargers and 2016 3rd overall pick Joey Bosa engaged in the longest contract dispute for an incoming NFL player under the rookie wage scale, which was implemented in 2011. Bosa missed 31 days of training camp before signing his rookie contract.

There's a different issue. It's trying to get to some amount above league minimum in any of the base salaries. Only the 1st 2 picks of the 4th round have ever been able to do so. The 1st time was in 2022.

That's hard to project. It's going to be a different landscape if there's a quick resolution with Tyler Shough. The Seahawks getting Nick Emmanwori done at #3 before anybody else near the top of the 2nd round signs would have its own ramifications.
