A great thread summarising ‘Inventing the individual’, also expanded upon in Tom Holland’s brilliant book ‘Dominion’….the virtues we consider normal in the west, compassion, charity, the importance of human life, all stem from Christianity and we’re not the norm previously….

“It’s all about relationships” sounds lovely, until you realise it means some kids only behave for teachers they like. We don’t let drivers ignore speed limits just because they don’t feel a connection with the police. Schools need systems, not charm. Link in reply...

I want to be on-the-record and crystal clear. This is a disastrous policy that will do vastly more harm than good. Watch as tens of thousands of Illinois kids get shoved into the mental health funnel and convinced they are sick. Many or most of which will be false positives.

‘Finally, when “progressive” educators fail to bring the breakthrough in pupil attainment they promise, they look to social inequality and deprivation to explain away their failure, leading to a school culture in which failure is accepted.’ ‘We made no secret of our motivation:

Good architecture is civic & sociable. It talks to the street & its neighbours. Bad architecture is selfish, the lazy outward expression of its mere internal arrangements.

One thing that had become crystal clear to me as I came to belief in God is that, in 30 years as an atheist, I never really gave due diligence to hearing out the other side. I had Dawkins and Harris and Russell and Hitchens and Dennett on my side. And these guys clearly did the

Small sample, but this is indicatively damning. You would *hope* that staff in an education college would know the most about pedagogy, but in this instance they knew the *least*. I think that the last ten years has seen an explosion in evidence-literate academics taking their

It is a tax on your parent's death. It is deeply immoral, which is why it is widely despised, even by those who will never have to pay it. These egalitarian cheap shots are just easy cover, often from people who never extend the principle into their own 'meritocratic' privilege.

*Learning styles *Coloured lenses / overlays for reading difficulties *We only use 10% of our brains *Left-brain, right-brain learners *letter reversal = dyslexia … all alive & well in schools & teachers are always shocked & angry to learn that they have no substance.

Banning cell phones while adopting 1:1 devices in schools is like serving muffins instead of donuts for breakfast. There might be some slight advantages, but many of the negatives remain.

I decided not to use Chromebooks during the first few days of school. Instructed my students to keep it in their backpacks. Only pencil and paper. How did it turn out? ⬇️

Canada: Report point to 15,343 euthanasia deaths in 2023. 241 for dementia. No such thing as “limited euthanasia” or “a little euthanasia only in severe causes”. Once you open the door numbers multiply and grounds for ending patients lives are remorselessly expanded. Careful

Many teachers say class is better when they get rid of the Chromebooks too. Multifunction devices guarantee distraction. We need distraction-free schools. No phones, no Chromebooks.

There’s going to be a noticeable change in schools across the country this year. There will be quiet, orderly rooms with rows of desks facing the front where a knowledgeable teacher will be explicitly instructing his/her students (maybe even from a script!). There will be
