Hi everyone. I’m really excited to announce that I have accepted a nomination to join the AMS Middle Atmosphere Committee (AMS Committee on Middle Atmosphere) as a student member. I’m honored to serve and bring my perspective as a PhD student studying stratospheric dynamics!

Lastly I promise - programs & departments can recruit all they want, but how are they supporting their underrepresented students once they get there? What policies are in place to ensure their safety & protection? This is a piece of the puzzle I have found lacking in higher ed.

I’ve said this so many times but: Institutions love recruiting underrepresented + minority students and say they prioritize DEI initiatives but provide little resources & support once we get there, then ask us to help with these issues when many of us are burnt out and exhausted.

Students who were forced to be resilient their whole lives don’t need another conversation about grit. They need resources, guidance, sponsorship, advocacy….etc.
