Unfortunately "catastrophic" may not be strong enough for what #Jamaica will experience. Days of tropical storm conditions already. Feet of rain are possible over the island with land/mud slides, maximum winds could even exceed those of 175 mph in higher elevations. @wwltv

#Melissa tied the strongest landfall ever with the Labor Day hurricane of 1935 with winds of 185 mph and 892 mb pressure. Weakening has occurred, but it is expected to remain a major hurricane as it moves over eastern Cuba overnight and over the SE Bahamas. @wwltv
