Lubin: The UD IS&T Center will be a great economic engine in eng, composite materials & health sciences.

UD has no obligation to go through zoning process. They hope to rezone site S&T (science and tech).

It is a 272 acre brownfield, requiring cleanup. URS is recycling demo'd materials. It will be demo'd to slab.

96% of demo'd materials are reusable. Wow!

Former admin building & water towers will be only remaining structures. PT rehab facility will locate here (college of health science.)

A stream runs below the site which may be re-routed for stormwater management and aesthetics.

A cogeneration plant is planned to power the facilities. Substations will be consolidated into one new station. Result: energy savings.

Relocating the train station down the track to take advantage of commuter rail is planned. Yay. Septa!

Commuter rail would also support residential and retail markets. Amtrak is very supportive.

Funding sources: ground lease. Federal funds are being considered for infrastructure. Some grants have been acquired.

#udel has other ongoing projects: bookstore, ice lab, animal facility, east campus (replacing dickenson & rodney).
