Quite the display last night as seen from Danby Beacon. 30+ Perseid meteors, stunning Aurora borealis plus some mega lightning flashes out to sea. A skywatching treat for sure. Distant tawny owl calling throughout. teesbirds ITV Weather #TwitterNatureCommunity

Here's a thing. The only lights visible when taking this 10 second exposure of the star Arcturus were the two distant cars on the horizon. Between me and those is just pure dark moor. The bright lights streaking right across the frame weren't visible to the naked eye 🤔 #strange

Always a treat to see a ruby-tailed wasp. Not sure exactly which sp. this is as there are several, and they're very difficult to ID properly. Those emerald colours though! teesbirds Tees Wildlife #TwitterNatureCommunity #TwitterNaturePhotography

Stunning ichneumon wasp seen in Skelton recently. Thought it was the common Pimpla rufipes at first but on closer inspection it's way more exotic-looking. Any help with sp. greatly appreciated. teesbirds #TwitterNatureCommunity #TwitterNaturePhotography #nature #ukwildlife

Beautiful timelapse of a Coprinellus micaceus mushroom, also known as the mica cap, releasing its spores by Ye Weijun! Mushroom spores are tiny reproductive units that help fungi reproduce and spread. When released from the mushroom, they travel through the air and land in

Common kestrel hunting in the sunshine on the North Yorkshire moors this afternoon. How beautiful its colours and markings. Superb bird. teesbirds NorthYorksBirdNews #birdwatching #BirdsSeenIn2024 #TwitterNatureCommunity #TwitterNaturePhotography

Excellent raptor action on the North Yorkshire moors this afternoon, with 4 red kites and 4 common buzzard all in the air at one point. Fabulous to watch them soar, glide and interact. Stunning birds. teesbirds NorthYorksBirdNews RSPB #birdwatching #BirdsSeenIn2024

Not a bird I see often so a real treat to see this greenshank at Scaling Dam this afternoon. Little egret also present. Quiet on the moors but a 30+ flock of rattling mistle thrushes flying over Sleddale was nice. teesbirds NorthYorksBirdNews #birdwatching #BirdsSeenIn2024

Quite a few sandwich terns passing north through Skinningrove this morning. Also lone gannet far out to sea, plus usual BH & herring gulls. Osprey east over Upleatham at 9am quite low over car, no chance for photo unfortunately. teesbirds NorthYorksBirdNews #birdwatching

No pallid harrier at Scaling Dam for me this aft but a hornet mimic hoverfly feeding outside the hide more than made up for it. Beast of an insect! Also patch tick of a distant winchat at Margrove - an absolute treat to see. teesbirds NorthYorksBirdNews #birdwatching #nature

Margrove alive with whinchat this aft with several birds present in the reeds and hawthorns near the car park - fabulous to see. Also patch tick with a dunlin, and barn owl hunting the adjacent fields. teesbirds NorthYorksBirdNews #birdwatching #BirdsSeenIn2024 #nature

Knotgrass moth caterpillar and a rather fabulous mossy rose gall (aka Robin's pincushion) at Scaling Dam. No bird pics as camera sadly broke but 2 x red kite, 6 x common buzzard, 1 x kestrel, 20 x meadow pipit, & 7 x swallow seen over NY moors. teesbirds NorthYorksBirdNews

Whinchat numbers decreasing at Margrove but still two birds present this afternoon - stayed longer than expected and been a real treat to see them. Going by numbers and locations of them seen here on X they appear to have had a good year. teesbirds NorthYorksBirdNews #birdwatching

Quiet on moors with just 2 x buzzard and 3 x kestrel seen. Little wonder as RAF out doing low level exercises - see 3rd photo for just how low! Margrove busier with 30+ coot & 30+ moorhen present. Also 1 x whinchat & 1 x chiffchaff at car park. teesbirds NorthYorksBirdNews

Incredibly quiet on the moors this aft & all very distant. Just 1 x common buzzard, 1 x rook, a few carrion crows, jackdaws & woodpigeon, stonechat and 1 x meadow pipit seen. Kingfisher at Margrove on way home was a welcome treat, though too fast for photo. teesbirds

Two hours cold anxious wait first thing this morning but so worth it. Barred warbler at South Gare. Huge thanks to SCANNERMAN for his kind help in locating it - an elusive and tricky bird to see, and a life ✅ for me. Superb bird. teesbirds NorthYorksBirdNews #birdwatching

Thought I was seeing double. Not one but two mandarin ducks now present at Margrove ponds this afternoon. Plumage absolutely stunning, and a fabulous high-pitched 'peep' call rather than a quack - a joy to both see and hear. teesbirds NorthYorksBirdNews #birdwatching
