In a powerful section on gun control, a teacher from Sandy Hook tells the DNC what it was like on the day of the shooting. She describes hiding in a room with her class, trying to sing with the kids and read to them to drown out the sounds. "I carry that horrific day with me."

Gretchen Whitmer does probably the best job of the whole convention getting across one of the DNC’s key themes: how Kamala Harris is normal/ordinary when compared with Trump. “She’s lived a life like us,” she says. “Do you think [Trump] has ever been to a grocery store?”

Huge applause as Kamala Harris says that she (and Biden) want to see that “Israel is secure, the hostages are released, the suffering in Gaza ends and the Palestinian people can realise their right to dignity, security, freedom and self-determination”
