Silence is the best answer to someone who doesn’t value your words.

Coaches, I don’t know which one you needs to hear this (it’s all of us btw) but this is a reminder to check in on your athletes today and remind them you love them and care more about their well being than how many hits they have this year.

Mental health being dismissed by University’s is happening everywhere. It’s not just one sport or the other it’s all of them. All departments. It is a systemic issue. A life shouldn’t be taken for policies to be put in place, things to be changed, or voices to be heard.

As a coach, be honest with your players. Tell them the truth about how good they are and what they need to improve on, but do so in a respectful and encouraging way.

To all athletes who question…your worth, identity and belonging are not associated with your sport. You were not put on this earth to entertain. You are here because you - YOURSELF - YOUR WHOLE SELF is special and necessary and YOU ARE ENOUGH sports or no sports! ❤️❤️

Coaches: Starting today. Can you commit to LOVE YOUR ATHLETES? Show them every day - check in with each one. A smile, high 5, or a pat on the back is all it takes some days. Create an environment in which our athletes feel challenged yet safe. Be demanding but not demeaning.

People wonder “Why are Student Athletes struggling?” It’s a list of things. But imagine reading half the stuff on social media or in articles about how “that player is the reason we lost”or “didn’t perform well”. As athletes, we are already our own biggest critics. Be respectful.
