This #FibroidsAwarenessMonth, know that millions of women still suffer from this painful disease — and a vastly disparate number of us are Black. Today, I led the introduction of the Uterine Fibroid Research and Education Act to redefine our fight against fibroids.

As maternal deaths in our nation continue to rise and thousands more face life-threatening complications, we have a moral responsibility to provide Moms the care they and their babies need most. I’m proud to fight for the CARE For Moms Act to protect moms’ futures in America.

Every single missing child deserves attention and resources, but the disproportionate number of missing Black women and girls is concerning. We must prioritize finding them and bringing them home safely.

We cannot keep turning a blind eye to the disproportionate rates at which Black women and girls go missing or the lack of resources dedicated to finding them. This epidemic is not just a local issue but a global concern that deserves proper attention and immediate action.

Breast cancer is deadlier for Black women. We need equal access to screening and healthcare services, and this new study of mammograms can play a crucial role in reducing disparities for Black women when it comes to breast cancer detection. wkrn.com/news/national/…

The pursuit of Eurocentric beauty standards has led many Black women to rely on chemical relaxers. We're now seeing a possible association between relaxer use and an increased risk of uterine fibroids in Black women. forbes.com/sites/ariannaj…

Breast cancer mortality rates are higher among Black women due to a lack of access to healthcare and screening tests. We must address these disparities and work towards better outcomes for all to ensure that no one is left behind in the fight against this devastating disease.

This proves why it is crucial for society to actively challenge and dismantle harmful beauty standards. By promoting inclusivity and acceptance of all hair types, we create an environment where Black girls feel empowered to embrace their natural hair without judgment.

It’s long past time to challenge societal norms and stereotypes that perpetuate discrimination against Black women and girls based on their hair. Every single individual deserves to feel confident and proud of their natural hair. fox5ny.com/news/natural-h…

Menopause affects every woman, but it rarely is part of our national conversation. It was great to talk with Halle Berry who is an incredible advocate for this issue.

My mother wasn’t a prop. She was a peace advocate before she met my father and was instrumental in him speaking out against the Vietnam War. Please understand…my mama was a force. Here’s what I wrote about her a few years ago: huffpost.com/entry/coretta-… #CorettaScottKing

Jessica Pettway should still be with us. She was misdiagnosed MULTIPLE times before her cancer was detected. Black women are 41% more likely to develop cervical cancer and 75% more likely to die from it. We must ensure doctors LISTEN TO BLACK WOMEN when we say something's wrong.

Discrimination against Black hair is discrimination against Black people. Our co-chair Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman introduced the #CROWNAct on Wednesday, which would create important protections against racial hair discrimination. We strongly urge the House to pass it.
